The accountant’s’ role can not be separated from business. Professional accountant must have adequate accounting knowledge to accommodate the needs of business owners in running their business. This is a high demand profession. Some certified accountants with thorough experience may start their own consulting business.

Then what does it take to become a professional accountant?

  1. Adequate knowledge and experience. Professional accountant must have adequate knowledge, where he must hold a degree in accounting or related fields. Besides, an accountant must also have good analytic and technical expertise in the business system. This enables an accountant to provide solutions or inputs related to strategic decisions.
  2. Accurate. The accountant’s task is closely related to numbers and money. Therefore, an accountant must be able to manage the fund used for business activity accurately. For example, accounting only acknowledges transactions with valid transaction note. The approved number must be matched to the transaction note. Accuracy has a positive value, which will lead to trust from other parties, in business or society.
  3. Focus on details. Accounting-related work is focused on details. Insufficient detail only causes less accuracy and accountability. A focus on detail will encourage business owners to make decisions based on the detailed backup data, the result is a more accurate decision.
  4. Consistency. Professional accountant must be consistent with accountability, consistent towards accounting procedures, the method used, the smallest measurement unit,  and presentation format
  5. Discipline. In preparing the financial statements, an accountant should be able to present relevant and timely reports. This can be achieved if an accountant has high discipline. The consistency is applied in terms of- Never underestimate the smallest data- Comply with company policies and procedures- Obey the government regulations- Obey the code of ethics- Hold true principles and practices.
  6. Honest. Honest behavior is the most crucial point to build accountability. This is performed by reporting the actual company’s financial condition, without cheating.
  7. Never give up.The accounting profession is a complicated position requires more learning to master it, which requires extra hard work and persistence. In addition, the dynamic nature of accounting along with the developing business environment requires an accountant to keep learning. Persistence, fighting spirit, and never give up are the requirements to achieve success.
