Marketing is the whole of the system on a business activity which purposed to plan a product, pricing, promotion and distribution determination means goods which aims in satisfying customers. Then, sales activity was focused only on the sale of a product and aims to increase sales of products alone. From the brief sense already described, it appears that the marketing process is longer and more complex if you compare it to the sales process. In the marketing strategy, there is the term 4P fact rarely some people add up to become 7P. The term is composed of “product, price, place, promotion, process, people, and physical evidence”. In addition, the sales just to be part of one of the terms contained in the marketing of “promotion”. Thus, the sales activity did not pay attention to factors other than “promotion” that could be the business of marketing support.

Then later, in marketing strategy, marketers will try to keep the image of the product so that the customer can quickly decide to buy one of the products offered or sold because it already knows the quality and brand of the product. In addition to the sales strategy that they are not overly concerned with how to maintain the image of the brand, but they are more focused on how they offer products to the market by informing what are the advantages of these products so that consumers can be interested in buying their products. Then the more interesting that the salesman never thought about whether customers feel satisfied or not is important for the salesman is the product sold and can meet the sales targets set by the company.

Even so, there are some companies that make sales is part of marketing. But for a work assignment they remain differentiated. If the marketing is focused on planning strategies that fit the 4P or 7P even part of the marketing mix, the sales focus to start working if the product was ready for market. So it can be said that marketing is a team that is tasked to develop a marketing strategy, while sales as the executing team.

Another difference between the two is the relationship between sales to customers merely in the process of buying and selling the rest of the sales are not responsible anymore in maintaining good relationships with customers or the long term. On the contrary, the relationship between marketing with customers must be maintained from the process before the transaction until after the transaction in order to maintain customer loyalty to the company or business. A company will not be successful in winning market competition when only relying on sales. But sales were good also cannot be achieved if it is not backed up with the right strategy. A company can certainly make a sale, but a company may not be able to plan marketing strategies that can satisfy the needs and desires of its customers.
